The Path of Integrity: Armenak Martin Dumanian on Law, Ethics, and Community

Armenak Martin Dumanian has spent his life focused on integrity, learning, and service. As an Ethics & Risk Analyst at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, he helps ensure that legal representation stays ethical and fair. But his journey to this role started long before law school.
Growing Up with Purpose
Armenak was born and raised in Oakville, Ontario. From an early age, he balanced academics, sports, and community service. He played hockey, soccer, and golf, but he also dedicated time to his church and youth programs. These early experiences shaped his outlook on responsibility and leadership.
“I’ve always believed in fairness and doing things the right way,” Armenak says. “Whether it was in sports, school, or helping in the community, I wanted to do my part.”
His commitment to learning was just as strong. He participated in mock trial, debate, and student government, sharpening his critical thinking and leadership skills. This passion led him to study political science and law.
Education and the Road to Law
After high school, Armenak attended Queen’s University, where he earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies in 2014. He then pursued his Bachelor of Laws at the University of Leicester, graduating in 2018.
During law school, he became involved in legal research and pro bono work. He had an essay published in the University of Leicester’s Law Review, arguing for de-politicized sentencing in terrorism cases. He also assisted in drafting legal appeals for low-income individuals.
“It was eye-opening,” Armenak recalls. “Seeing how law affects real people pushed me to think about the bigger picture. Justice isn’t just about rules; it’s about people.”
Building a Legal Career
After law school, Armenak gained hands-on experience in different legal roles. He worked as a Summer Student at Mathews Dinsdale & Clark LLP in 2017 and 2018. In 2019, he began his Lawyer License Articling Program at Axess Law Professional Corporation, where he later became Manager of Client Legal Services.
In April 2024, he joined Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP as an Ethics & Risk Analyst. His work involves ensuring regulatory compliance in legal practices and helping to manage legal, economic and reputational risks for the Firm.
“I think about ethics as the foundation of law,” he explains. “Without trust and integrity, the system doesn’t work. My job is to help keep that foundation strong.”
Commitment to Community
Beyond his career, Armenak stays active in his community. He has been a lifelong member of St. Vartan Armenian Church of Mississauga, where he has served on the altar and volunteered at youth programs, day camps, and cultural festivals.
“My faith and culture are important to me,” he says. “Giving back to the community has always been a big part of my life.”
Hobbies and Personal Interests
Even with a busy career, Armenak makes time for golf, fitness, reading, travel, and politics. He sees golf as more than just a game—it’s a way to challenge himself and clear his mind.
“Golf teaches patience and focus,” he says. “It’s like life. You don’t always get a perfect shot, but you have to keep going.”
The Future of Ethics in Law
As technology and law continue to evolve, Armenak believes ethics will play a bigger role in the industry. “With AI and automation coming into law, ethical questions are more important than ever,” he notes. “We need to make sure that technology is used responsibly and that people are treated fairly.” He hopes to continue growing in his career and making a positive impact in legal ethics and risk management.
“The law is always changing,” he says. “But its core values—fairness, integrity, and justice—will always stay the same.”
Final Thoughts
Armenak Martin Dumanian’s story is one of dedication, learning, and service. From his early years in Oakville to his current role in legal ethics, he has remained committed to doing what’s right.
“It’s not about titles or achievements,” he says. “It’s about making a difference where you can.”
