The World’s Most Influential CEOs And Business Executives Of 2024

Brian Moynihan

Who do you think is the best CEO in the world? Is it Volkswagen’s Dr. Oliver Blume, Darren W. Woods of Exxon Mobil, Apple’s Tim Cook, or Jane Fraser of Citigroup? Whether famous or not, these CEOs are highly successful, talented, and influential. For long-term investors, it’s worth keeping an eye on them as they build remarkable businesses worth holding onto for decades.

The world’s most successful CEOs aren’t necessarily the ones who are the most flamboyant. They have a long-term vision and are committed to creating lasting value. To compile the results, we gathered data from almost 3,000 CEOs from all over the world and evaluated the performance of CEOs from large public companies. Surprisingly, the best CEO in the long run was someone who often performed poorly in the short term but continued to make significant investments in the future. The CEOs who made the list for 2024 have all had a great impact and have been highly effective in their roles.

Which CEOs around the world have consistently delivered strong results over the years? Our list of top performers for 2024 provides an objective answer, although it may contain some unexpected names. Some relatively unknown faces may rank at the top. CEOWORLD magazine has recently published its yearly list of the most influential CEOs and business executives worldwide.

Unsurprisingly, Brian Moynihan, Chairman and CEO of Bank of America, has topped the global ranking of the world’s best CEOs across all industries for 2024. Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase, has secured the second spot, followed by Amin H. Nasser, CEO of Saudi Aramco, at No. 3, Darren W. Woods, CEO of Exxon Mobil, at No. 4, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, at No. 5, and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, at No. 6. The CEO of Shell, Wael Sawan, has been ranked seventh among the world’s top 10 best CEOs and business executives for 2024. Akio Toyoda, who leads Toyota Motor, has been ranked eighth. Liao Lin of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and Kyung-Kye Hyun, the chief executive of Samsung Electronics, hold the ninth and tenth positions.

Methodology (The CEO Leaderboard): CEOWORLD magazine’s global ranking of the best CEOs for 2024 measured more than 2,300 CEOs across 61 countries. Taking a long view of business performance, the methodology is primarily based on the financial returns for the CEO’s entire tenure, which makes up 60 percent of the final ranking, as opposed to stock price and the current quarter’s numbers.

To calculate the final position, the additional 40 percent of a CEO’s ranking factors in a company’s track record on environmental, governance, and social issues, as well as market shares, change of market capitalization, and brand’s newsworthiness and impact.
