Ranked: Countries with the highest per-capita carbon emissions

CO2 emissions

When we look at the countries with the highest per capita carbon emissions, measured in tons of CO₂, we see that the biggest economies are not necessarily the biggest polluters. In fact, countries whose economies rely on fossil fuel exports dominate the top 3 countries with the highest per-capita carbon emissions.

Qatar has been ranked first in terms of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions per capita, producing nearly 67.38 tonnes of CO₂ per resident. This puts Qatar well ahead of its peers in the top ranks. Bahrain and Kuwait rank second and third, respectively, with 26.7 tonnes and 25 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per capita. Below is the full list of countries ranked from highest to lowest in terms of per capita emissions.
