Social Image Tagging Platform ThingLink Raises $2 Million
With more than 220,000 publishers on board, social image tagging platform “ThingLink” has closed a new $2 million financing round led by Helsinki-VC firm Inventure Oy.
The top executives in the company are Chief Executive Office – Ulla Engeström, Chief technology officer – Janne Jalkanen, Neil Vineberg – Chief marketing officer, Chief operating officer – Cyril Barrow, and chief revenue officer – Hillary Billingsley. ThingLink is based in Helsinki and New York, was first founded in 2008 by Ulla Engeström.
ThingLink adds links and tags within photos , and is proving to be a valuable tool for musicians, music marketers, automotive, fashion, entertainment, B2B and consumer brands — on track to exceed 300,000 publishers by end year.
Other participants include angel investments from former Tumblr president John Maloney, the CEO of Fremantle Media. Thom Beers of Trimaran Capital Dean Kehler, SoundCloud CTO Eric Wahlforss, and TEKES, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation.
ThingLink also announced new appointments to its board of directors, including Entertainment Media Ventures CEO Sandy Climan and former Facebook media sales director Craig Coblenz. Former Meredith Publishing and Newsweek/Daily Beast executive Hillary Billingsley was also appointed as chief revenue officer.
