I have compiled here a list of comedic acting talent that’s been entertaining us for over a decade — “the best Frat Pack face-offs.” What are the eligibility criteria for a “Frat Pack Movie” — well, it must have at least one Frat Pack member (Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, and Steve Carell) in a starring role, along with at least one more in a supporting role.
More importantly, the movie must also share an absurdist sense of humor, such as Dodgeball, Royal Tenenbaums, Zoolander and Blades of Glory, together.
Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn have been collaborating for years and along with Will Ferrell, Owen and Luke Wilson, Paul Rudd and Steve Carell they form the Frat Pack.
Here’s my choice of their finest films, Agree with my choices? Disagree? Feel free to start the debate in the comments below!
The Internship - One example of a movie starring the Frat Pack is ‘The Internship,’ which hit theaters on June 7, 2013. The film stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, and also features Will Ferrell in a minor role.
Meet the Parents - After ‘The Royal Tenenbaums,’ Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson paired up again in 2000 to kick off what would become the ‘Meet the Parents’ series: ‘Meet the Parents,’ ‘Meet the Fockers,’ and ‘Little Fockers,’ playing the roles of Gaylord “Greg” Focker and his fiancée’s ex-boyfriend Kevin.
Zoolander - The 2001 comedy film ‘Zoolander’ starred Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Will Ferrell, and it even featured Vince Vaughn in a minor uncredited role as Derek Zoolander’s brother Luke.
Old School - Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, and Luke Wilson joined together in 2003 for the hilarious film ‘Old School,’ which really put the Frat in Frat Pack. In the film, the three men throw massive parties at a house near a college campus and effectively relive their college years — without, of course, the classes.
Starsky & Hutch - Four Frat Pack members appear in the 2004 film adaptation of ‘Starsky & Hutch’: Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson play the title characters, while Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell play the antagonists.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story - In 2004′s ‘Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,’ Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller star as the rival gym owners who form teams and compete in an epic Dodgeball tournament in order to win $50,000.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy - 2004 was a banner year for the Frat Pack! Not only did members appear in ‘Starsky & Hutch’ and ‘Dodgeball,’ but they also appeared in ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.’ The film, which was more jam-packed with Frat Pack members than any other movie, featured:
Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy
Steve Carell as Brick Tamland
Vince Vaughn as Wes Mantooth
Ben Stiller as Arturo Mendez
Jack Black as a motorcyclist
Luke Wilson as Frank Vitchard
Wedding Crashers - Back in 2005, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson first buddied up for ‘Wedding Crashers,’ in which they played two men who — get this — crashed weddings. Will Ferrell also joined in on the fun with a cameo appearance as Chazz Reinhold.
Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny - Not many Frat Pack members appear in ‘Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny,’ but two is all it takes! As one half of Tenacious D, Jack Black is obviously a big part of the film, and Ben Stiller makes a small appearance as the manager of Guitar Center
Night at the Museum - Though the Frat Pack’s movies tend to be for a more “mature” audience (chronologically-speaking), a few of the guys have swung into the land of Family Entertainment. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are one such duo, both appearing in the ‘Night at the Museum’ film series.
Tropic Thunder - Both Jack Black and Ben Stiller star in the comedy film ‘Tropic Thunder.’ One other member of the Frat Pack, Owen Wilson, was originally set to appear in a supporting role, but dropped out.
The Big Year - ‘The Big Year’ is quite a bit different from the other films in the Frat Pack catalog, but it still counts! Both Jack Black and Owen Wilson starred in the movie, and Ben Stiller was also involved as a Producer.
The Watch - ‘The Watch,’ an incredibly funny film about a neighborhood watch group that tried to take down aliens living in their neighborhood, starred Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller.
The Office - Lastly, while ‘The Office’ obviously isn’t a movie, it starred Steve Carell and both Will Ferrell and Jack Black made guest appearances on the show during its run.
