What is with XM & Sirius?

Big news came today, XM Beats Sirius!
Sirius Satellite Radio is to merge with XM Satellite Radio. Who is bullish here? Since today XM is no longer the slacker. Or its just Howard Stern’s? Race is pointless, now that the two companies are set to merge. Sirius said that revenue for the second quarter 2008 should be approximately $283 million, up from $226 million in the same period in 2007.
- XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. reported tacking on 322,000 net new subscribers over the past three months.
- Sirius’ rolls gained just 279,820 accounts during the second quarter.
- Sirius has grown its user base by 25% over the past year
- XM’s 17% subscriber gain during the past four quarters.
- XM faced a dip on the retail side, whereas Sirius was fortunate
- Sirius revenue also climbed 25% higher to $283 million during the quarter.
- Sirius retail subscribers were up 7% in the second quarter, while OEM subscribers, which include automobile installations, surged 53%.
- Federal Communications Commission approved the merger between Sirius and rival XM Satellite Radio.
