Ranked: The best and worst cities in the US to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, 2020

Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick
Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick

Perhaps not surprisingly, Chicago in Illinois has been named the best U.S. city to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day for 2020, according to a recent report. The worst city to celebrate the holiday is Brownsville, Texas.

This year, Americans are projected to spend $6.16 billion on the holiday, which is $18.61 per person – that’s a whole lot of green!

The US grew from 2018 to 2019 by almost a half percent, or about 1.5 million people, with the population standing at 331 million this year, according to population estimates. By 2050, it is estimated that the American population will surpass 398 million citizens.

32.6 million Americans claim Irish ancestry but everyone’s a little Irish on St. Patrick’s Day.

The personal-finance website WalletHub has analyzed 200 of the largest US cities across 17 key metrics to find the best place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this year. Included among their research metrics are Irish pubs and restaurants per capita to the lowest price for a three-star hotel on St. Patrick’s Day to weather forecast, among others.
