Black CEOs run 1.4% of Fortune 500 companies: List of 8 Black CEOs
Unfortunately, only eight companies from the Fortune 500 have a Black CEO. However, it is worth noting that the current number of Black CEOs is the second-highest in history, only behind the figure for 2022. Although this record-high number is worth celebrating, it is crucial to recognize that Black CEOs make up just 1.6 percent of all Fortune 500 CEOs, which is significantly lower than Black America’s 13% labor force participation rate.
The number of CEOs on the current rankings will likely decrease further as Franklin Clyburn Jr. of International Flavors & Fragrances is set to resign this month. Furthermore, the list has already become shorter after the sudden resignation of Rosalind Brewer as Walgreens CEO last year. As of now, there are only eight CEOs left on the current rankings, including Calvin Butler Jr. of Exelon and Marvin Ellison of Lowe’s.
