Mallorca: The Ultimate Destination Of The Balearic Islands

Spain and its islands have always been popular destinations. Today we will discover Mallorca, which attracts a large number of tourists every year and has plenty of beauty to share with the traveler.

The basics about Mallorca

Mallorca is part of a larger cluster of islands opposite Spain called the Balearic Islands. Palma de Mallorca is the capital of the complex and the homonymous capital of Mallorca, which is also the largest as far as size is concerned. Minorca, Ibiza, and Formentera islands also belong to this unique complex.

In Mallorca, people speak Catalan, and this is the official language. Remember that Catalan is based on Spanish, so if you are fluent in Spanish, you may be able to communicate with the locals. About 900,000 people are living in Mallorca, and their currency is Euro.

How to approach this trip

Idyllic seasons for your trip are, of course, spring and summer, two seasons in which the neighboring coastal city of the island, Barcelona, comes to life. Do not hesitate to feel that you are spoiling yourself by dedicating a few days to Barcelona before Mallorca. After all, the passage from Barcelona is almost inevitable to get to your final destination since the nearest airport is located there. In Barcelona, they also speak Catalan, so perhaps you can do some practice there as well.

Where to stay in Mallorca

Undoubtedly, the busiest but also different from many beaches is El Arenal. This street will turn your stay into a relaxing holiday. A coastline of many miles, with various options in hotels, restaurants, and shops. The most important thing, however, is that if you decide to book a hotel on this street, you will have the luxury of having the sea just in front of you. Although it is in front of the tall buildings and the main road, it does not remind anything of a beach in the city. On the contrary, you can easily find yourself in a lively center, and a few minutes later, you may be on a distant island beach. That’s because Mallorca is organized perfectly, which is perhaps why it has become such a popular destination.

Everyday biological cleaning of the sea is carried out, and every night a crew cleans the sand and rearranges the sunbeds to their original position. Generally, the area provides everything you need; however, do not get carried away by this comfort, and remember to visit other parts of the island as well.

The beaches you should not miss

Of course, the coastal area does not start and end there, but there are organized and non-organized beaches throughout the island. The most famous is Playa de Muro Beach, with its large sandy beach that offers services of various beach bars and non-organized spaces. If you are interested in deep waters, this is the place to be. On the other hand, if you want more shallow waters and white sand, prefer Playa de Alcudia. Other beaches include Cala Mesquida Beach, Palma Nova Beach, Cala Gran, Playa Coll Baix, and Calo des Moro.

The highlights of Mallorca

  • Palma de Mallorca
In the capital, you will find the Placa de la Reina Square, where the multitude of restaurants and night shops in Mallorca are concentrated. Palma could not be missing an impressive Gothic cathedral like that of La Seu. For art lovers, just opposite the temple is the royal palace used as a museum.
  • Caves of the Dragon
In Posto Cristo, besides the beautiful beaches and walks you can take, it is worth visiting the Cave of the Dragon. There, you will see one of the largest underground lakes in the world, in the caves discovered in 1930.
  • Excursion to Sawyer by train
Finally, set off for a day trip from Palma Central Station, which is in Placa de Espanya, and enjoy the scenery in a 1 hour and 20 minutes drive.
