5 Things You Must NOT do In Business School

University Students

We live our lives in phases, and for most of us, Business School life is an important phase. It is during Business School years that you are introduced to an environment of greater autonomy, complex relationships, and more amusements. You are on your own, for the most part, during Business School, and this gives you an ample number of opportunities to discover new things in life. That being said, we often take it or granted as well. I bet most of you reading this article might have, at least once, thought of rewinding time and undoing/doing something back in Business School.

Now, what’s done is done. However, those of you who still have time in their hands before Business School finishes should consider a few things. Whether you are new to Business School or have been there for quite some time now, you must take into account the 5 things you must NOT do in Business School. Keep these in mind and you shall have a better experience. So, let us find out what those things are.

  1. Withdraw
Never let the opportunity to socialize slip away. When I say ‘socialize’, I do not mean to ask you to necessarily talk to and be friends with anyone. I am not asking introverts to become extroverts. All I ask you to do is to explore different variants of human relationships because they will teach a ton of things. Try to approach people, have discussions with them, understand their viewpoints, hang out with them, and make yourself reasonably available. The more you withdraw from Business School life, the less of it you will experience. In case you are not adjusting well, come out and talk to someone from the campus. There are professional counselors on campus whom you should consult.
  2. Not Participating in club activities
One of the best learning experiences you will ever have is in clubs. It is advised that you should consider joining a club of your choice. Most Business Schools operate all kinds of club activities which offer a rounded experience to participants. As a club member, you will be involved in an array of activities such as budget making, organization, Business School representation, and whatnot. You will have to shoulder responsibilities the execution of which will require mental fortitude and skill development.  Moreover, you will become friends or at least make acquaintances with juniors, peers, and seniors, and this could be useful in the long run.
  3. Idling away time
Yes, I get it that Business School life is also about fun. But, anything in excess is bad. It is perfectly fine to hang out with friends or party hard whenever you get the opportunity. But, do not waste away your time only on leisure activities. Business School life is a vital learning experience when you can get the most out of everything. Dedicate a good part of it working towards your future. Use this time to know people, explore hobbies, participate in competitions, and experiment with choices. If you waste away your years in lethargy, then you would have wasted a good number of hours which could have otherwise been used well.
  4. Not Forging Strong Teacher-Student Relationships
You might think that you are not being taught right but you should know that that can’t be always right. Teachers are fundamental to Business School life whether or not you want to admit. They have learned academicians who have come a long way and have their own output to give. As a student, you can learn a lot of things if you establish a good relationship with them. Try to reach out to them beyond lecture hours and discuss with them academic matters that interest you the most. Or, simply go to them and seek advice on an assignment or class test. In case you need counseling, they can be truly helpful. In the future, their references can even help you in job-hunting.
  5. Taking All of This For Granted
Every day you spend in Business School is an opportunity to grow yourself into a better human. Business School life will serve as a reminder throughout your life about things you must and must not do. Hence, do not take it too casually that you end up learning nothing. Struggle, heartbreaks, disappointments, amusements, excitement, and uncertainty are some of many things you will experience here, but you must embrace them and educate yourself accordingly.
