Ben Katovsky Succeeds Merck Mercuriadis as CEO of Hipgnosis Song Management

Merck Mercuriadis, founder, CEO, and also the visionary behind Hipgnosis Song Management (HSM), will ascend to the position of Chairman, while Ben Katovsky, currently HSM’s President and Chief Operating Officer, is set to take the helm as the new CEO.

Following the planned transition, both Mercuriadis and Katovsky will continue as directors and members of the Board of HSM. Mercuriadis, as Chairman, will continue to dedicate the majority of his time to HSM.

HSM, in its announcement today (February 2), conveyed that Mercuriadis will persist in leading engagements with songwriters, artists, and the music industry, focusing on expanding consumption and elevating the value of HSM’s clients’ portfolios. Katovsky, in turn, will spearhead the executive management of the business, implementing strategies to fortify the company’s standing as the preeminent platform for acquiring and managing song assets.

In a memo to HSM employees, Mercuriadis highlighted the accomplishments of the company and expressed optimism about the future.

Hipgnosis Song Management (HSM) serves as the investment advisor for both the UK-listed Hipgnosis Songs Fund (HSF, aka SONG) and the Blackstone-funded Hipgnosis Songs Capital (HSC), managing approximately $3 billion in music assets. HSM also boasts Blackstone as its majority investor.
