Harvard University: Online Business and Management Courses Offered for Free

Harvard University offers a variety of business courses for individuals who want to broaden their knowledge of crucial factors that have to do with the function of a company. In this article are presented five introductory courses that are free of charge and participants can attend them online.

  1. Nonprofit Accounting and Financial Statements: Participants have the opportunity to learn the basic principles of nonprofit accounting through these webinars. This is an introductory,  self – paced online program taught in English with a four-week duration. Basic accounting concepts and financial statements are introduced to individuals with little or no experience in finance or accounting. The webinar is being held in conjunction with the Nonprofit Financial Stewardship Executive Education program at Harvard Kennedy School. The instructor is Eric Schwartz, Managing Director in PricewaterhouseCoopers National Assurance Health Services. Of course, the course is free and it is open till November 8, 2022. Not to forget to mention that participants will not receive a certificate for completing this webinar series.
  2. Improving Your Business Through a Culture of Health: It is a nine weeks long program with a time commitment participation between one or three hours per week. Participants will learn how to strengthen their business using the Culture of Health approach and promoting well-being. They will also get useful information about how to reduce costs, increase revenues and enhance a business’s reputation using a Culture of Health. The course outline includes an introduction to the culture of health emphasizing why should business care about good health. It also includes four pillars. The title of the first pillar is «Your Consumers’ Health», the title of the second pillar is «Your Employees’ Health», the title of the third pillar is «Your Community’s Health» and the title of the fourth pillar is «Our environment». The course is open till January 5, 2021. The instructors are senior lecturers and professors of business administration and public health at Harvard University.
  3. Exercising Leadership: Foundation Principles: It is a self-paced, four weeks long course. However, there is a time commitment participation of two or three hours per week. Participants will learn how to identify and unbundle complex challenges, how to understand the role of formal and informal authority, how to identify the key perspectives of stakeholders, and how to implement personal strategies for surviving and thriving amidst change. Discovering new ways to approach complex organizational systems is another key factor of the course. The course is open till June 25, 2021. The instructor of the course is Ronald Heifetz, Founder of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard Kennedy School.
  4. Technology Entrepreneurship: Lab to market: This online course offers a systematic approach to technology entrepreneurship. Participants will learn how to generate new use scenarios by matching customer needs with promising technology seeds and how to align business and operating models. It is worth mentioning that this introductory course has been developed in collaboration with the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard and the University of California, San Diego. Platform edX hosts the course which is open till October 8, 2021. Two are the instructors of the course. The first one is Karim Lakhani, Charles Edward Wilson Professor of Business Administration, Harvard University, and the second Vish Krishnan, Jacobs Family Chair in Management and Engineering Leadership, University of California San Diego.
  5. Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies: It is a self-paced course with a six weeks long duration. The course will open on October 23, 2020, and it will remain available for entries till May 23, 2021. This business and management course, taught by Harvard Business School professor Tarun Khanna has the main characteristic: to boost awareness concerning the opportunities for entrepreneurship in fast-growing emerging markets. Also, participants will learn to understand and solve complex social problems. The courses are offered through the edX platform.
