Federico Protto Succeeds Luca Luciani as CEO of Cellnex Italy
Cellnex Telecom, Europe’s largest telecommunications towers and infrastructure operator with a portfolio of over 138,000 sites across 12 European countries, has named Federico Protto as the new CEO of Cellnex Italy, succeeding Luca Luciani, who has departed the company. Protto, currently serving as General Manager at Intred SpA, will officially assume his role at Cellnex by the end of March.
In his new position, Protto will report directly to Marco Patuano, Group CEO, and will join the Cellnex Telecom Executive Committee as the head of one of the company’s five primary markets in Europe, overseeing the cluster comprising Italy, Switzerland, and Austria.
Protto brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having held executive positions at various telecommunications companies, including Retelit SpA and IRIDEOS SpA, where he served as CEO and General Manager, respectively. His tenure at T-Systems, both in Italy and Germany, provided him with extensive insight into telecommunications business units at an international level. Additionally, he has held positions at Worldcom EMEA (now part of Verizon) and Telecom Italia earlier in his career.
Protto holds a degree in Electronic Engineering from Politecnico di Milano. He also earned an MBA from Bocconi University and holds a Master’s in Information and Communication Technologies from Politecnico di Milano. Before entering the workforce, he spent a year as a researcher at the Electronic Engineering Department of Politecnico di Milano.
