The 7 most valuable U.S. tech companies added $3.4 Trillion in value in 2020
The seven most valuable American technology companies — Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Facebook, Tesla, and Nvidia — picked up a combined $3.4 trillion in market capitalization in 2020. Thanks to its stock climbing 81%, Apple’s market capitalization jumped by almost $1 trillion in 2020, followed by Amazon Inc, which increased by over $710 billion.
Tesla’s stock climbed almost ninefold in 2020, lifting Tesla’s market capitalization from $76 billion at the beginning of the year to $669 billion. Meanwhile, NVIDIA Corporation more than doubled in value in 2020, closing with a market cap of $323 billion.

- Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) market cap jumped by almost $480 billion.
- Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) market cap jumped by almost $710 billion.
- Alphabet’s (NASDAQ:GOOGL) market cap jumped by almost $268 billion.
- Facebook’s (NASDAQ:FB) market cap jumped by almost $193 billion.
- Tesla’s (NASDAQ:TSLA) market cap jumped by almost $593 billion.
- Nvidia’s (NASDAQ:NVDA) market cap jumped by almost $162 billion.
Amazon’s Jeff Bezos is the world’s richest person (net worth: $190 billion), followed by Tesla’s Elon Musk (net worth: $170 billion) and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates (net worth: $132 billion). Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (net worth: $104 billion) is fifth. Also in the top 10 are Google founders Larry Page (net worth: $82.4 billion) and Sergey Brin (net worth: $79.8 billion) and Microsoft ex-CEO Steve Ballmer (net worth: $80.4 billion), as of January 1, 2021.
