Patrick Stewart Appointed as Rangers’ New CEO
Patrick Stewart has been named as the new Chief Executive Officer of Rangers and will officially assume the role on December 16. Stewart previously held the same position on an interim basis at Manchester United, where he served in a variety of senior roles over an 18-year tenure at Old Trafford.
Originally from Aberdeen, Stewart has also worked within the Football Association (FA), the Premier League, and the European Club Association. Additionally, he has served as an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Rangers’ interim chairman, John Gilligan, noted that Stewart’s reputation and background were highly regarded, citing his extensive experience at senior levels throughout his more than 20-year career in football. Gilligan added that the board is in ongoing discussions with several strong candidates for the position of chairperson, with an announcement expected in the coming weeks.
Stewart succeeds James Bisgrove, who left the club during the summer to take up a position with Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.
Rangers recently reported a financial loss of £17 million for the fiscal year ending in June. On the field, Philippe Clement’s men’s team currently sits third in the Scottish Premiership, trailing Aberdeen by eight points and Celtic by 11, with a tally of seven points from 12 in the Europa League.
Meanwhile, Jo Potter’s women’s team holds second place in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL), just a point behind Glasgow City, and has advanced to the SWPL Cup semi-finals.
