Wipro’s New Salary Hike Reflects Continued Focus on Employee Engagement

Just nine months after its previous round of pay increases, Wipro has announced another salary hike for its employees. The company’s CEO, Srinivas Pallia, discussed the development during Wipro’s Q2 FY2025 earnings call following the release of its financial results.

In the last salary hike, effective December 1, 2023, Wipro implemented merit-based salary increases (MSI), selectively applied according to the company’s business affordability. At the time, Nagendra Bandaru, managing partner and president of the “Enterprise Futuring” division, had explained that higher-compensated top performers might not be included in that round of hikes.

In the latest update, Pallia shared that Wipro had already rolled out another round of salary increases. Once again, the raises were merit-based. He also mentioned that the company had conducted its Annual Employee Engagement Survey in August and had emphasized staying connected with employees during his visits.

Pallia highlighted that this latest pay raise, effective from September 1, reaffirmed Wipro’s dedication to its workforce, taking place just nine months after the last increase. This, he said, underscored the company’s continued commitment to employee welfare.

Chief Financial Officer Aparna Iyer also commented on the financial aspects of the pay hike, noting that the company’s margin expansion was driven by operational efficiencies, even after absorbing one month of salary increments rolled out for associates in September. She acknowledged potential challenges in Q3, citing the dual pressures of seasonal furloughs and the incremental costs of salary increases, but expressed confidence in maintaining steady margins.

In other developments, Wipro added 978 new employees during the July-September 2024 period, correcting its Q1 headcount figures due to an error by one of its entities. The IT major’s total employee count stood at 233,889, marking a reduction of 10,818 employees year-on-year compared to Q2 FY2024 when the headcount was 244,707.
