CEO of Airtel Africa, Segun Ogunsanya, Honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 African Business Leadership Awards
Segun Ogunsanya, the outgoing CEO of Airtel Africa, has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 14th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) 2024. This prestigious event, organized annually by Africa Leadership Magazine (ALM), celebrates excellence in corporate practices and leadership within Africa’s business sphere.
Ogunsanya will be presented with his award during a special ceremony at the 9th ALM Africa Summit, scheduled for July 17-18, 2024, at the UK House of Lords. The summit, themed “Africa Unleashed: Navigating Disruptions, Enhancing Opportunities,” will convene policymakers, business leaders, and stakeholders from Africa and around the world.
Following his retirement from Airtel Africa on July 1, 2024, Ogunsanya will take on the role of inaugural Chair of the Airtel Africa Charitable Foundation, continuing his focus on sustainability and development in Africa.
Throughout his 12-year tenure at Airtel Africa, Ogunsanya played a pivotal role in the company’s expansion, achieving double-digit revenue growth and introducing innovative products across the continent. His career spans over 35 years across banking, consumer goods, and telecommunications, with notable leadership roles at Coca-Cola Bottling operations in Ghana, Nigeria, and Kenya, as well as at Ecobank Transnational Inc.
Expressing his gratitude for the award, Ogunsanya acknowledged the collective effort of his colleagues and the impact of his work on digital and financial inclusion across Africa. He emphasized his commitment to making Africa a better place and inspiring future business leaders on the continent.
