How a Childhood Passion Turned into a Successful Nail and Beauty Business – Anna Chuiun’s Story

Anna Chuiun

The nail care industry continues to grow every year. According to statistics, in 2025, the global revenue from the nails market is expected to reach almost US$13 billion. Experts predict that over the next 5 years, this business will grow at an average rate of 3.3% per year. There are more than 65,000 nail salons in the United States. The average revenue for a nail salon has increased by 37% since 2010. The nail salon market is projected to expand by 5% to 9% annually through 2029. So, what does it take to succeed in this highly competitive market? Let’s discuss it with expert Anna Chuiun.

Anna Chuiun is an Aesthetic Nail Care practitioner, founder of methodology “Natural Elegance Nail” in Akzentz LLC (San Antonio, TX). Anna created her own technique – “Smart Nail Science: The Organic Harmony Method by Anna”. Furthermore, she is the author of the scientific articles on the topic of Advanced Nail Aesthetics through the Pure Science of Nails. Recently, she has increased her number of clients by 30% by promoting the concept of mindful, healthy nail care.

Anna, your story is one of a kind – from interior design to creating beauty at people’s fingertips. Where did it all begin?

From a young age, I was captivated by the details, especially hands and nails. For me, nails were more than just beauty – they represented care, hygiene, and self-respect. At 12, I used to travel across the city to give someone a quality manicure. While I admired elegant nails, I kept asking myself: how could I make them not only beautiful but healthy?

That question stayed with me. While others focused on designs, I honed my techniques, always learning and improving. I didn’t just want to beautify nails; I wanted to promote health and wellbeing.

As a child, I remember my mom reading me a story about germs under dirty nails, and that idea stuck with me. I never bit my nails and was obsessed with cleanliness. To me, beauty wasn’t complete without purity and safety – clean hands led to a cleaner, healthier life.

In the past, women wore gloves to protect their hands from dirt and bacteria. While that tradition has faded, the importance of hygiene hasn’t. Hands collect microbes, and nails are where they thrive. That’s why my focus is on cleanliness as the foundation of both beauty and health.

Even while studying architecture and interior design, I was drawn to balance and harmony – and wondered how those principles could apply to body beauty. Eventually, I shifted my focus to nails, bringing my design expertise into my nail artistry.

You now live in the U.S. How has your vision evolved here?

Moving to America gave me a fresh perspective. People here truly value natural beauty and eco-conscious practices. I realized that my approach – blending beauty with nail health and non-toxic care – was exactly what people needed. I developed my own method, and as I applied it at a local salon, our client base grew because people saw I prioritized long-term health, not just appearance.

I also noticed the manicure culture in the U.S. was different – from styles to techniques and expectations. So, I adapted and launched my American company, Akzentz. I integrated my signature approach, focusing on clean lines, precision, and health-first practices. This helped us rapidly grow our client base. Clients appreciated that our services were beautiful, hygienic, scientifically backed, and mindful.

Many of my clients are professionals – doctors, nurses, veterinarians, and models – who need clean, well-maintained nails for practical reasons. For them, it’s not about length, but about healthy, well-shaped nails. We emphasize natural nail strength, avoiding harmful chemicals, and educating clients on proper home care.

What advice would you give to young professionals starting out?

Stay curious, clean, and committed to learning. Trends come and go, but your values, knowledge, and integrity will shape your path. If you love what you do and do it with purpose, success will follow. Focus on both the art and the science – understand how products affect the body and how you’re truly helping people, not just decorating them.

Don’t be afraid to dream big. Whether in a small town or a big city, your skills can grow into something bigger than you imagine. Start with the basics, but aim for impact, confidence, and excellence. Stay passionate, and the rest will follow.
