With a Net Worth of $29 Billion, Abigail Johnson is the Wealthiest Female Billionaire in Finance and Investments
Abigail Johnson, scion of the renowned Johnson family and CEO of Fidelity Investments, maintains her position as Massachusetts’ wealthiest individual, topping the World’s Billionaires List for 2024 with an estimated net worth of $29 billion. Climbing from $25 billion the previous year, Johnson ranks among the top 60 globally on the list of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
The Johnson family’s influence extends beyond Abigail, with three of the top four richest individuals in Massachusetts hailing from their lineage, including New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. At the helm of Fidelity Investments since 2014, succeeding her father, Johnson has propelled the firm to new heights, assuming the role of chairman in 2016. Her family legacy traces back to her grandfather, Edward Johnson II, who founded the Boston-based mutual fund giant in 1946.
With an estimated 28.5% stake in Fidelity, Johnson commands significant influence over the firm, which manages discretionary assets totaling $4.5 trillion as of September 2023. Notably, she has embraced the burgeoning realm of cryptocurrencies, spearheading Fidelity’s foray into digital assets with the launch of a platform catering to institutional investors in 2018.
Johnson’s journey to the pinnacle of finance began with humble roots, as she honed her skills at Fidelity during college summers before joining full-time as an analyst in 1988, following her Harvard M.B.A. Her steadfast leadership and strategic vision have solidified Fidelity’s standing as a global powerhouse in investment management, underscoring her indelible imprint on the financial landscape.
