Hiroki Totoki is the Interim CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment

After an impressive tenure of nearly three decades at Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), including his role as President and CEO since 2019, Jim Ryan, the head of PlayStation, has officially announced his retirement.

On April 1, 2024, he will hand over his leadership role to Hiroki Totoki, the President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Sony Group Corporation. Totoki will assume the position of Interim CEO of SIE until a suitable successor is identified. Additionally, Totoki will take on the role of Chairman of SIE next month, preceding Ryan’s departure.

Hiroki Totoki is a highly significant figure within Sony. As the Chief Operating Officer and President of Sony Group Corporation, he holds the second-highest executive position within the company, following Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, who took over the role from Kaz Hirai in 2019.

While Jim Ryan was responsible for overseeing all aspects within SIE, the most profitable segment, Totoki is part of the management structure that oversees the entirety of Sony Group’s diverse ventures.

Totoki joined Sony in 1987 and has steadily progressed through the corporate ranks over the past three decades. He has worked in various departments, consistently moving upward. His expertise lies in finance and restructuring, and he played a pivotal role in the launch of Sony Bank. Additionally, he served as the CFO of Sony Network Communications.
