Paul Brown is the new CEO of Hastings Technology Metals

Hastings Technology Metals

Hastings Technology Metals has named Paul Brown as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective from September 21. This announcement follows Hastings’ earlier statement in mid-July that their interim CEO, Alwyn Vorster, would not extend his contract beyond July 31.

Brown brings two decades of experience in various senior roles within the mining industry, including at Mineral Resources (MinRes) since April 2015, where he has served as CEO of commodities since July 2020.

Before joining MinRes, Brown worked in a range of roles encompassing general management, operational leadership, technical direction, project and studies management, business improvement, mineral resource assessment, and mine strategy.

Brown has also held senior positions at Leighton Holdings, HWE Mining, and Fortescue Metals Group from 2010 to 2015. His contributions include successful project deliveries such as Fortescue’s Solomon Hub, MinRes’ Mt Marion and Wodigna lithium projects, and the Wonmunna iron ore project.

Charles Lew, the Executive Chairman of Hastings Technology Metals, expressed the company’s pleasure in welcoming Brown as the new CEO. Lew stated, “Paul’s appointment reflects his deep expertise across the entire mining project lifecycle and strong track record in major project construction management, commissioning, and operation. Under his leadership, the board is confident that Hastings will be well positioned to steer the Yangibana project to first rare earth concentrate production in early 2025, creating long-term value for our shareholders, stakeholders, and people.”

Brown expressed his honor in joining Hastings during this transformative phase for the company, saying, “The Yangibana project holds immense potential, and I’m eager to apply my experience and insights to realize its full value. Collaborating closely with Charles and the entire team, I am confident that we can navigate the challenges ahead and pave the way for a successful and sustainable future in the rare earths industry.”
