Few Pointers About The International School of Bologna

Bologna old town

Today’s article covers one of the many schools in Italy for children’s best education. As the name suggests, the International School of Bologna (ISB) is in Bologna, a city in Italy. It remains one of the best-performing schools in the city and the country. Known for its stellar educational standards and upgraded infrastructure,  ISB is truly an excellent choice for immigrants parents.

Let us find out more about the school:

A Brief History of the School

In 2004, the school was founded. In three years, it became an applicant for the IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). And in 2009, the school was officially an IB World School. In 2012, the school added another feather to its cap upon obtaining formal approval from the Council of International Schools (CIS) for commencing the accreditation process.

The school went on to apply for the IB Diploma Programme, whose authorization was subsequently granted in 2013. In the same year, ISB opened its high school. A few years later, ISB became a Google Reference School in the country–the first of its kind here. In 2020, the school was able to obtain accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Academics

The following are the programs in the academic structure of the ISB:

    • Early Years: Obviously, this is the starting stage of school education and covers children between the ages of 3 and 6. The IB PYP applies to this stage.
    • Elementary: The comprehensive curriculum under the IB PYP is instructed to students between the ages of 6 and 12.
    • Middle School: From the ages of 12 to 16, students are enrolled across different grades and instructed with a grade-appropriate Middle Years Programme (MYP).
    • Diploma: The final academic phase at ISB is the Diploma phase. The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is for students between the ages of 16 and 19.

Extra-curriculars

Curriculum-based pedagogy has to be supplemented with extra-curricular participation. At ISB, an internationally-rich and relevant culture of action and learning is created through multiple after-school activities.

Activities here include chess, drama, basketball, digital design, media production, calligraphy, hip-hop, music, and Chinese learning. Dedicated infrastructural facilities have been established within the premises.

Admissions at ISB

Here are a few pointers you must remember while applying at ISB:

    • You’ll have to first get in touch with the school via email.
    • Soon after, an inquiry meeting is scheduled. Note that you have the option to have a video conference instead of a physical meeting.
    • Following the outcome of the said meeting, the parents will have to submit documents to support the application; these documents include previous school report cards, copies of passport and birth certificate, and reference letters.
    • In order to fully assess whether the school can cater to the needs of the student, age-appropriate interviews are conducted.
    • Successful interview results in admissions.
