The Advantages of Being a Writer And The Expectations That Come Along
A writer’s career is quite exciting and can lead an individual to great success. People who write have always been respected by society and are in contact with how people think and what their audience wants to read. If you enjoy reading, that is a good sign that you could make it as a writer. Writing is much more energetic than reading, but people who activate their minds when they read could do both. Today, we will see why many people pick this unique profession and what benefits and challenges that has to offer.
Pros
- Living an enriched life
Authors and writers around the world have a lot of interesting things to share with people. An author is likely to write about things they have not experienced. A person cannot have lived all the experiences they describe in a book. Even if they use elements of their actual life, memories, and past experiences, they must enrich the texts with their imagination. This allows them to ”live” more things than the average person will ever be able to experience, and this is the good thing about art.
- Teaching others and contributing to society
As a writer, especially in a magazine or a newspaper, you get to share all your knowledge with your readers. Every writer has a unique relationship with their audience, and the idea that they can share their knowledge and give things back to humanity is exciting. Authors also share their wisdom with the public, gaining a deeper connection with their audience.
- Constantly learning new stuffWriting is not only about giving to society but also about the things you get out of this process. To be able to write something interesting, you have to be interesting yourself. Being updated is essential. If you have to write an article about an issue that people care about, you have to do some research on your own. People who love learning new things will probably find this exciting.
- The ability to do it till you are 90 years old
Contrary to other activities, writing is improving as you age. As we mentioned before, it demands wisdom, imagination, or knowledge, depending on the stuff you write. Therefore, age is your ally in this case. You can write until your hands allow you to. In a world where aging is almost discriminated against, writing gives an alternative for older people to do something that will enable them to have the respect of others without fearing the younger people in the industry.
- Remote work
Another unique part is that since it requires focus and silence, it is great to do it at home or remotely during your stay in an exotic destination. Besides, the experience will make you a better writer, and travel offers a lot of new experiences.
- No capital needed
Of course, let us not forget that it costs nothing to start this career unless you want to invest in your studies. Still, apart from investment in yourself, there is no fancy equipment needed for this job, making you less committed to the profession or, in other words, freer.
Cons
- Spending time with yourself
One could say it is the loneliest profession after the profession of lighthouse keepers. This is okay if you enjoy silence; however, if you are the type of person who likes being with people, you will find it hard to be good in a profession like that.
- Rejection is a part of the game
Rejection is also on the table here, and if you are not okay with that, you probably have to think about it before starting this career. Authors and writers enjoy much respect, but this only happens when they are successful. Before they reach that point, it is highly expected that they have been through difficult days where most doors were closed. As this often happens with art, novel authors may either have a global reputation or be entirely underestimated and forgotten.
