Here Are The Top 24 Countries And Top 27 Cities With The Most Unicorn Start-Ups, 2019

China has the largest number of “unicorns” in the world, according to a new Hurun Report, while the United States and India placed second and third, respectively. The country has produced 206 unicorns (privately-held start-up firms) while the US has 203 and India 21. The UK ranked fourth with 13 unicorns, followed by Germany and Israel with seven each.

Similarly, with 82 unicorns, Beijing now has more unicorn start-ups than any other city in the world, according to a new Hurun Report, while San Francisco (55 unicorns) and Shanghai (47 unicorns) placed second and third, respectively. New York ranked fourth with 25 unicorns, followed by Hangzhou with 19 and Shenzhen with 18.

Note: The publication defined a unicorn as a start-up founded after 2000, worth over $1 billion, that has not yet publicly listed on an exchange. The world’s unicorns are based in only 24 countries around the world, spread around 118 cities, and have a total value of US$1.7 trillion, according to the latest report.
