Top 10 Timeline Maker Tools for Students and Professors

University Students

A list of the best timeline maker tools for students and professors is presented below. The free version of these timeline maker tools is good enough but if someone wants more business-oriented solutions must pay a small amount of money.

  1. Sutori
The basic version is free but the unlimited one is offered with charge. Although it was originally designed to make interactive timelines, it is currently used as a creator of interactive stories. Of course, this is an advantage for students and new users. This timeline maker is simple and helps students and educators to create timelines immediately.
  2. Timeline JS
With the help of Google Sheets students can create visual and interactive timelines. Through Timeline JS students can import media from popular media apps like YouTube and Twitter. Users, in order to create a timeline, must open and modify the included Google sheets template on the site. More details and instructions can be found in the Make A Timeline section. Timeline JS is a free online tool.
  3. Adobe Spark
Through Adobe Spark users can create visual designs for web or mobile posts. This timeline maker is free to use. However, it is required an Adobe account to sign in every time. A special Adobe Spark for Education program is also available for free to educators after request. Furthermore, the Adobe Education Exchange includes a library of resources and classroom content.
  4. Google Sheets
This timeline maker is part of the GSuite. Also, it is easily accessible for users that already have a Gmail account. Users can start by manually formatting and adding formulas on a blank spreadsheet. Google Sheets can store all documents that the user needs on the cloud and automatically synchronize this stuff across all devices.
  5. Visme
It is offered with a subscription but the free version allows users to create up to five projects using total storage of 100MB. Template choices are limited and output can only be downloaded as JPEG. Not to forget to mention that Visme is a complete visual document tool letting users create presentations, infographics, timelines, and other formats.
  6. Preceden
It does not require download or installation. Users just need to login into their account. The free version allows the creation of one timeline with 10 events. The subscription cost is about 30 dollars per year for a student license that features a single history timeline with unlimited events.
  7. Timetoast
Timetoast helps a group of people work together to create a common timeline. This option best fits for students who work on group projects or any kind of presentation. When the timeline is completed, users can download the embed code, or share the presentation via Facebook or Twitter. Timetoast offers a free version with no time limit. Users who want unlimited timelines and collaboration with other people using the timeline must pay between 6 and 9 dollars per month.
  8. Timeline Maker Pro
This timeline maker can be downloaded and it is available in Windows 10 down to XP. First-time users receive help through an intuitive user interface and helpful tutorials. Word documents, PDFs, images, audio, and videos can be easily uploaded into the timeline. It is not free but a full-featured trial version is available for 14 days. And, if users find it helpful can consider a one-time purchase.
  9. Timeline 3D
Users can create a historical timeline that can be viewed from a historical perspective. Timeline 3D is built for Mac OS only. The software is free to use without the need for registration. Extra features such as printing and exporting to PDF or movies can be purchased separately.
  10. Time Graphics
Users by clicking «create» can start immediately. Once the user gets used to it, several features can help create a more visual presentation. While the basic setup is free, registration is required to save the timelines. The free version lets users create public timelines. These timelines can be viewed by anyone.
