Jeff Bezos Becomes the World’s Richest Individual Once Again
Jeff Bezos has once again ascended to the position of the richest person on earth, surpassing Elon Musk in net worth. Bezos, the founder of Amazon, boasts a net worth of $200 billion, while Musk follows closely behind at $198 billion. Over the past year, Musk has experienced a loss of approximately $31 billion, while Bezos has seen a gain of $23 billion, as reported by the index.
The shift in rankings marks a reversal from May 2023, when Musk briefly held the title, overtaking LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault. Arnault’s conglomerate, which includes luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton and Dior, had experienced a surge in stock price, propelling him into contention for the top spot alongside Musk and Bezos.
However, the dynamics of wealth fluctuation are evident, with Tesla shares tumbling more than 7% on Monday, contributing to Musk’s recent decline in net worth. Earlier this year, a Delaware state court judge invalidated Musk’s 2018 pay package, valued at over $50 billion, which had significantly contributed to his wealth accumulation.
Despite the changing landscape of billionaire rankings, it’s worth noting the staggering wealth amassed by the top individuals. Since 2020, the combined net worth of the five wealthiest people on earth has skyrocketed by 114% to a total of $869 billion, adjusted for inflation, according to Oxfam’s annual inequality report.
