Standard Chartered has announced the appointment of P.D. Singh as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for India, effective April 1, 2025. He will succeed Zarin Daruwala, who is set to retire on March 31, 2025.
With nearly three decades of experience in banking and finance, Singh has held key leadership and coverage roles across European and American banks. Prior to joining Standard Chartered, he served as CEO of JP Morgan Chase Bank in India, where he played a crucial role in establishing and expanding the bank’s corporate banking franchise. Under his leadership, the bank received multiple industry awards for excellence. Before his tenure at JP Morgan, he spent a decade at HSBC, where he held leadership positions across corporate and commercial banking. Holding dual MBA degrees alongside an engineering background, Singh has made a significant impact on the financial sector.
Sunil Kaushal, Co-Head of Corporate & Investment Banking and CEO for ASEAN and South Asia at Standard Chartered, expressed enthusiasm about Singh’s appointment, highlighting India’s strategic importance to the bank. He emphasized that Singh’s extensive experience, deep market knowledge, and strong relationships with clients and stakeholders would strengthen the leadership team as the bank pursues its cross-border and wealth strategy. Kaushal also took the opportunity to acknowledge Daruwala’s contributions over her nine-year tenure as CEO for India & South Asia, extending his best wishes for her future endeavors.
Reflecting on his new role, Singh described joining Standard Chartered as a privilege, given the bank’s rich history of over 165 years. He noted that he had closely followed the bank’s ambitions and growth trajectory in India and expressed his eagerness to further drive sustained growth while reinforcing the bank’s commitment to delivering value to stakeholders.
