EQT Names Per Franzén as New CEO, Ushering in a New Era of Growth

EQT AB has announced a leadership transition, appointing Per Franzén as its next CEO and Managing Partner, effective following the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting on May 27, 2025. He will succeed Christian Sinding, who has overseen a period of unprecedented expansion, steering the firm’s market capitalization from approximately $7 billion at its 2019 IPO to around $42 billion at the time of this announcement. Franzén steps into the role at a moment of strength for EQT, as the company reports record-breaking investments, heightened exit activity, and significant portfolio valuation growth. With an ambitious $104.8 billion fundraising cycle ahead, the firm is set to expand its investment strategies, distribution channels, and global brand presence.

A veteran of nearly 20 years at EQT, Franzén currently serves as Head of Private Capital Europe & North America and Deputy Managing Partner. He has played a pivotal role in the firm’s evolution, most notably spearheading the $23 billion fundraising for EQT X—the largest private equity fund closed globally in 2024. Under his leadership, EQT Private Capital Europe & North America has grown into the company’s largest business unit, managing approximately $118 billion in assets.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Franzén emphasized his deep connection to EQT, having dedicated most of his career to the firm. He conveyed his gratitude for Sinding’s leadership and the Board’s confidence in him, affirming his commitment to driving EQT’s continued growth while staying true to its core values.

Sinding will remain CEO until the transition is finalized, ensuring a seamless handover. Afterward, he will take on the role of Institutional Partner, chairing the newly established EQT Council—a platform designed to strengthen strategic partnerships, provide valuable insights to clients, and enhance the firm’s global impact. Additionally, he will continue leading the Global Investment Forum and remain active on several investment committees.

Reflecting on his tenure, Sinding highlighted EQT’s extraordinary journey, from his early days as the company’s eleventh employee to leading a team of nearly two thousand professionals across more than twenty markets. He expressed pride in EQT’s values-driven approach and the firm’s ability to achieve exceptional performance while benefiting clients and broader society. Thanking the Board for its support, he expressed confidence in Franzén’s leadership and excitement about his continued role in EQT’s strategic direction.

Board Chairperson Conni Jonsson acknowledged Sinding’s transformative leadership, praising his vision and relentless focus on performance and culture. He credited Sinding with guiding EQT through its 2019 IPO and expanding the firm’s global footprint. Jonsson also underscored Franzén’s deep alignment with EQT’s culture, commending his leadership within EQT Private Capital Europe & North America and his ability to manage a complex, multi-strategy investment team. He expressed full confidence that, under Franzén’s leadership, EQT will continue delivering exceptional value to clients and shareholders.
