Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, and Perplexity AI co-founder, Aravind Srinivas, Meet in Paris

A meeting between Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Perplexity AI co-founder Aravind Srinivas in Paris on Tuesday generated widespread attention, sparking speculation and excitement across social media. The encounter between the two Indian-origin tech leaders, both hailing from Tamil Nadu, led to discussions about a possible collaboration or even an acquisition by Google. Following the meeting, Srinivas shared his enthusiasm about the opportunity to engage with Pichai.

Both CEOs were in Paris for the AI Action Summit, an event that brought together global leaders, tech executives, and policymakers to discuss the future of artificial intelligence. Srinivas later posted a photograph from the meeting, describing it as a great experience.

The image quickly went viral, prompting an outpouring of reactions online. Many social media users suggested that the two companies should join forces to create the ultimate search engine. Some commented on Google’s financial resources and Perplexity AI’s cutting-edge technology, while others took a more humorous approach. One user jokingly questioned whether Pichai had switched from Google Assistant to Perplexity Assistant on his Apple device, while another simply described the meeting as an incredible moment. Others speculated about whether the two executives conversed in Tamil, with one user referring to the encounter as “Chennai Express.”

Before this meeting, Pichai also met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the vast opportunities artificial intelligence could bring to India. He noted that Google was eager to collaborate closely with India to drive the country’s digital transformation. While in Paris for the AI Action Summit, he highlighted the potential for innovation and growth in India’s AI sector, reinforcing Google’s commitment to advancing technological development in the region.

Sundar Pichai, originally from Madurai, now serves as the CEO of both Google and its parent company, Alphabet, playing a pivotal role in shaping the tech giant’s global strategy. Aravind Srinivas, born in Chennai, co-founded Perplexity AI, an advanced AI-driven search engine backed by investors such as Jeff Bezos. Established in 2022 alongside Andy Konwinski, Denis Yarats, and Johnny Ho, Perplexity AI has quickly gained prominence. A distinguished alumnus of IIT Madras, Srinivas earned his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and has worked as a research intern at OpenAI, followed by positions at Google and DeepMind.
