LG Uplus Teams Up with Startups to Boost AI Innovation
South Korea’s LG Uplus has unveiled plans to collaborate with domestic startups to advance its AI agent, “ixi,” marking the first significant initiative under the leadership of its new CEO, Hong Bum-shik. The company disclosed that Hong’s first official engagement since taking office in November 2024 was attending the “Shift” demo day event, a startup support program.
At the event, Hong expressed the company’s commitment to fostering innovation through collaboration, emphasizing LG Uplus’s ambition to be the preferred partner for startups. He described the Shift program as a critical step toward identifying promising AI technology firms and driving technological advancements through meaningful partnerships.
The Shift program is designed to assist university research teams and startups with strong market potential by offering them a platform to secure external investments and establish technological collaborations with LG Uplus. The demo day event brought together over 100 attendees, including venture capitalists, university tech fund representatives, and startup executives.
Eight startups were selected for the program in 2024, with several working on projects to integrate their technologies into the AI agent, ixi. Key participants included Lemong, Omelet, Fairy, and Toggle Campus in the AI agent sector, Squeezebits and Technomatrix in software operations, Trillion Labs in AI transformation models, and Aim Intelligence in AX-based technologies. LG Uplus plans to provide these startups with access to ixi APIs, infrastructure support, and business acceleration programs, with possibilities for equity investments and long-term collaborations also on the table.
During the demo day, the startups presented their technologies to potential investors and discussed their plans for commercializing innovations in partnership with LG Uplus. The company has pledged to cover costs incurred during the collaboration process, further reinforcing its support for the startups.
Hong highlighted the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies with a strong focus on customer needs to deliver outstanding experiences. He expressed optimism about the potential for synergy between LG Uplus’s capabilities and the creativity and energy of the startups, aiming to foster new avenues for innovation.
