Todd Greenberg Named New Cricket Australia Chief Executive
Cricket Australia (CA) has announced Todd Greenberg as its next chief executive, succeeding Nick Hockley, who will step down at the conclusion of the summer.
Greenberg, currently the CEO of the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) and a former CEO of the National Rugby League (NRL), had been widely regarded as the leading candidate for the role.
With a background in first-grade cricket in New South Wales, Greenberg has cultivated strong relationships with players during his tenure at the ACA. His extensive experience in sports administration includes leadership roles as NRL CEO and General Manager of Stadium Australia, where he managed broadcast partnerships, sponsorships, stadium operations, and live events. He also played a pivotal role in negotiating the latest Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between CA and ACA and accompanied Hockley on Australia’s historic tour of Pakistan in 2022, marking the team’s first visit since 1998.
CA chairman Mike Baird expressed enthusiasm about Greenberg’s appointment, highlighting his vast experience and track record in driving commercial growth and innovation. Baird noted Greenberg’s achievements, including introducing the NRL Women’s competition and expanding the State of Origin series to Melbourne. He added that the recruitment panel and CA Board were impressed by Greenberg’s passion for cricket and his vision to build on recent successes and further the sport’s growth. Baird also acknowledged the significant contributions of Hockley, praising his leadership in securing key agreements such as the broadcast rights deal and seven-year content strategy.
Greenberg, reflecting on his appointment, conveyed gratitude for the opportunity to lead CA. He emphasized his lifelong passion for cricket and his commitment to guiding the sport through a period of rapid global growth. While recognizing the opportunities this growth presents, he acknowledged the challenges of maintaining Australian cricket’s premier status.
He expressed appreciation for the foundational work done by the current administration, emphasizing his goal to build on this momentum. Greenberg also acknowledged the collaborative partnerships he helped establish at the ACA, stating his intention to continue fostering these relationships to further the game’s development.
