How the House of Saud Outshines the British Royal Family in Global Wealth Rankings
While the British Royal Family’s estimated wealth stands at around $87 billion, they are far from the world’s wealthiest royals. In the UK, the Royal Family’s assets come primarily from tangible properties and the value associated with their brand. Key sources of income include the Duchy of Cornwall and the Duchy of Lancaster, estates that encompass land, property, and other holdings directly linked to the Sovereign. Among these assets, the Savoy Hotel and Somerset House are part of the Duchy of Lancaster, which has net assets totaling approximately $755.4 million. King Charles’s personal fortune is estimated to be around $772 million, placing him as the 258th wealthiest individual in the UK.
In stark contrast, the House of Saud—the ruling royal family of Saudi Arabia—is the wealthiest royal family in the world, with a net worth of $1.4 trillion. This figure is four times greater than the combined wealth of Elon Musk and Bill Gates. Musk, currently the world’s richest man, has a net worth of $304 billion, while Bill Gates, known for his philanthropy following his success with Microsoft, has a fortune of $105 billion.
The House of Saud’s wealth is estimated to be around 16 times greater than that of the British Royal Family. This extraordinary fortune, largely rooted in Saudi Arabia’s immense oil reserves, enables a lifestyle marked by opulent palaces, fleets of private jets, lavish yachts, and a valuable art collection. Such enormous wealth is a common trait among Middle Eastern royal families, many of whom saw a dramatic increase in both power and fortune following the collapse of the Ottoman Empire after World War I.
The wealth of these monarchies, particularly those in the Gulf region, continues to thrive thanks to the exploitation of the region’s abundant natural resources, a key factor in their enduring prosperity.
