Gavin Newsom Relocates Family to Exclusive Marin County at $9.1 Million Home
California Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife have recently moved their family to an affluent part of the state, where all four of their children are now attending schools in Marin County. While Newsom plans to maintain his six-bedroom, $3.7 million home in Fair Oaks, Sacramento, he and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, will now spend part of their time in a newly purchased property 90 miles away.
The family’s new residence is a $9.1 million home in Kentfield, Marin County, where their eldest child, Montana, has just started high school at The Branson School, which charges tuition fees that can reach up to $60,000 annually. The transaction for the 5,600-square-foot mansion was finalized on Thursday, with Newsom paying 7% above the asking price for the property, which is situated on less than an acre of land.
The new home, featuring six bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms, includes a guest house, expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, and stunning views of Mount Tamalpais. The outdoor area boasts a swimming pool, a spa, and a sculpture-lined garden with a fire pit, while the bedrooms come equipped with several walk-in closets.
Although a representative for the Newsom family did not confirm the purchase, they noted that the family will continue to divide their time between Sacramento and Marin counties. The spokesperson explained that the decision to move was influenced by the children’s educational needs, as they transition to new grade levels, including high school. This shift aims to provide continuity in the children’s schooling, especially with Gavin’s term set to end in January 2027.
The property in Kentfield was previously owned by Daniel Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt Hotels fortune. Newsom is already familiar with the region, having owned another home in Kentfield, which he bought in 2011 for $2.2 million and sold in 2021. Marin County, known for attracting celebrities and tech investors, saw a median home price of $1.76 million in September, reflecting its status as one of the wealthiest counties in the United States.
Jeff Leh, President of the Kentfield Homeowners Association, commented that Newsom would likely fit in well with the local demographic, noting the area’s reputation for attracting high-profile residents. He highlighted that Marin County, particularly areas like Kentfield and Ross, is well-regarded for its excellent schools.
Located just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco, Marin County is a region with deep personal ties for Newsom. He spent his childhood in San Francisco before relocating to Marin, where both he and his wife attended school. In Ross, the upscale suburb that houses Montana’s new school, the median household income is $250,000, and the median home price is $1.6 million—twice the state average.
The Newsoms have four children: Montana, Hunter, Brooklyn, and Dutch. In May, Jennifer Siebel Newsom shared that she had withdrawn one of their children from school due to bullying, a factor that may have influenced their decision to seek a new educational environment.
