India Tops the List of ChatGPT Adoption Rate with 45% of People Using it
Nearly two years after the release of ChatGPT by OpenAI, which played a significant role in launching the generative AI revolution, public sentiment toward this technology has begun to crystallize. The initial excitement that saw consumers flocking to use ChatGPT has given way to a more measured perspective as the technology integrates into everyday life.
A recent analysis visualizes the percentage of consumers using ChatGPT across various countries, drawing on data from the Boston Consulting Group’s CCI Global Consumer Sentiment Survey 2023. The survey reveals that India has the highest adoption rate, with 45% of people using ChatGPT. This high usage could be attributed to India’s large IT sector, where ChatGPT can serve as a valuable tool.
The data also suggests that younger countries by median age tend to show higher ChatGPT usage, likely reflecting a younger, more tech-savvy population. For instance, respondents from India and the Philippines, where ChatGPT usage is higher, are more likely to use AI tools for specific purposes, such as assisting with research or acting as a virtual personal assistant.
Conversely, in countries like the U.S. and Germany, where ChatGPT usage is lower, consumers tend to engage with the AI more out of curiosity or for entertainment, as noted by BCG.
For those who use AI beyond its novelty, “addressing unmet needs” has emerged as a crucial factor. This could involve tasks like setting financial goals, finding personalized recommendations, or searching for similar items to those already owned.
Overall, the survey indicates that about 40% of respondents express excitement about AI, while 28% are conflicted, and 29% are concerned. This range of reactions underscores the varied ways in which people are adapting to and integrating AI into their lives.
