América Móvil’s Strategic Focus on 5G Expansion Amidst Capital Investment Optimization Despite Slight Reduction in Capital Investment Forecasts for 2024 to $7.1 Billion
Mexican carrier América Móvil, under the leadership of CFO Carlos García Moreno, is embarking on an ambitious investment plan to deploy 5G technology across all markets of operation. García emphasized this commitment during a recent conference call with investors, highlighting Peru as a key target following the establishment of a new data center in January.
Operating across at least ten markets, primarily in Latin America, América Móvil has positioned itself as a major player in the telecommunications sector. Additionally, its partial ownership of Austrian operator Telekom Austria extends its footprint into Europe.
Despite a slight reduction in capital investment forecasts for 2024 to $7.1 billion, down from $8.6 billion in the previous year, América Móvil remains dedicated to expanding its broadband access and improving network infrastructure. The company’s focus on fiber investments has yielded positive results, with over 17 million fiber homes passed in Mexico and significant growth in fixed customer connections.
In the first quarter of the year, América Móvil added a substantial number of broadband subscribers across various markets, with notable increases in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, and the combined regions of Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. This growth underscores the effectiveness of the company’s strategic initiatives, including 5G deployment and enhanced service offerings.
CEO Daniel Hajj affirmed the success of América Móvil’s 5G network, emphasizing its widespread coverage and positive customer response. With over 10 million users able to access 5G technology through Telcel, América Móvil continues to lead the charge in Mexico’s telecommunications landscape.
While América Móvil faces competition from rival operators AT&T Mexico and Movistar in the 5G arena, its comprehensive approach to infrastructure investment and service enhancement positions it strongly for future growth and innovation in the ever-evolving telecommunications industry.
