Peggy Johnson Takes the Helm at Agility Robotics

In a groundbreaking announcement, Agility Robotics welcomes Peggy Johnson, former Microsoft executive and erstwhile CEO of Magic Leap, as its new CEO. This pivotal transition marks a significant milestone for the Corvalis, Oregon-based company renowned for its Digit bipedal humanoid warehouse robot. Damion Shelton, who has served as the company’s CEO since its inception in 2015, will assume the role of Agility’s president, collaborating closely with Johnson as part of the dynamic leadership team.

In a statement released this morning, Agility revealed that Johnson will spearhead the company’s “next phase of growth,” focusing on key areas such as sales expansion, strategic industry partnerships, future fundraising initiatives, and the seamless delivery of robots at scale to meet burgeoning market demand. Johnson will operate from California in her new capacity, with Agility maintaining offices in Palo Alto, Pittsburgh, and its headquarters in Oregon.

In a testament to its commitment to innovation and scalability, Agility unveiled plans last year for a new manufacturing facility in Salem, Oregon. This state-of-the-art facility is poised to ramp up production, with projections indicating the capacity to manufacture over 10,000 robots annually.

Notably, Agility’s ambitious vision received a significant boost with a $150 million funding round in April 2022, spearheaded by DCVC and Playground Global, and featuring participation from Amazon’s $1 billion Industrial Innovation Fund. Amazon’s utilization of Digit in its warehouse operations underscores the transformative potential of Agility’s robotic solutions in real-world applications.
