The New CEO of Barunson E&A is Choi Yoonhee
Choi Yoonhee has assumed the role of CEO at Barunson E&A. Having joined the company in 2021 from CJ ENM, Choi brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Initially serving as Managing Director, overseeing both domestic and international operations, Choi’s exemplary performance led to her promotion to Chief Operating Officer in April 2023.
In a prepared statement, CEO Choi expressed the company’s commitment to collaborating with leading filmmakers in Korea while actively seeking opportunities to engage with global projects across various formats, genres, and languages. This vision underscores Barunson E&A’s dedication to fostering creativity and innovation on a global scale.
Presently, at the European Film Market in Berlin, Barunson E&A is unveiling the Korean animation film “Yumi’s Cells” and the Indonesian horror title “Respati.”
Founded in 1996, Barunson E&A has made remarkable strides, notably contributing to the international success of acclaimed titles such as Bong Joon-ho’s “Mother” and the Oscar-winning “Parasite,” where Choi played a pivotal role in international distribution alongside CJ. Additionally, the company has been instrumental in producing notable works like Kim Jee-woon’s “The Good, the Bad, the Weird” and the recent “Cobweb.”Looking ahead, Barunson E&A’s upcoming slate includes highly anticipated projects, such as the next two features from director Bong Joon-ho, alongside works from esteemed directors Kim Sung-hoon and Um Tae-hwa. Recent endeavors include acquiring its first non-Korean film, “Miss Shampoo,” and investing in Indonesian cinema with Angga Dwimas Sasongko’s action thriller “13 Bombs.”
