EBRD Appoints Burkhard Kübel-Sorger to Serve as Vice President and CFO
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has named Burkhard Kübel-Sorger as its new Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective July 1, 2024. Kübel-Sorger succeeds Soha El-Turky, who served in the same capacity since 2020.
A German national, Kübel-Sorger brings a wealth of experience from his 18-year tenure at J.P. Morgan SE, Frankfurt, where he held various leadership positions, including Chief Operating Officer and Chief Risk Officer. In his most recent role, he served as CFO and was a member of the management board since 2010. Additionally, Kübel-Sorger played significant roles within the Association of Foreign Banks in Germany, culminating in his appointment as Chief Executive Officer.
In his new role, Kübel-Sorger will also serve as a member of the EBRD’s Executive Committee, the Bank’s highest management body, further solidifying his role in shaping the institution’s strategic direction.
EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso expressed delight in welcoming Kübel-Sorger to the institution, highlighting his extensive leadership experience in the private sector as a valuable asset. Renaud-Basso emphasized the importance of attracting top talent to senior positions to enhance the institution’s impact in the regions it serves.
