Last among the Top 10 Wealthiest People in the World, Steve Ballmer has an Impressive Story to Share.
Steve Ballmer, aged 67, currently resides in the United States and is notable as the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. With a substantial net worth of approximately $118,8 billion, Ballmer holds a noteworthy ownership stake in Microsoft. In addition to this, his diverse portfolio includes private assets such as the Los Angeles Clippers, The Forum, Intuit Dome, and a significant cash reserve.
Ballmer’s journey with Microsoft began in 1980 when Bill Gates persuaded him to abandon Stanford University’s MBA program. As Microsoft’s 30th employee, Ballmer rose through the ranks and eventually succeeded Gates as the CEO in 2000, holding the position until his departure in 2014. During his tenure, he oversaw the significant acquisition of Skype for around $8.5 billion in 2011.
As the largest individual shareholder in Microsoft, Ballmer owns an estimated 4% of the software giant. Following his departure as Microsoft CEO in 2014, Ballmer made a high-profile move by acquiring the Los Angeles Clippers basketball team for a substantial sum of $2 billion.
Interestingly, Ballmer and Bill Gates shared the same dorm and floor at Harvard University, forging a close relationship. However, strains emerged in their brotherly bond when Ballmer, during his tenure as CEO, steered the tech company towards hardware ventures, including the Surface tablet and Windows mobile phone.
