Aliko Dangote is Still Africa’s Wealthiest Individual
For the 13th consecutive year, Aliko Dangote of Nigeria maintains his position as Africa’s wealthiest individual despite the economic challenges faced by the country.
Africa remains one of the most challenging places globally to amass and preserve a billion-dollar fortune. The list of Africa’s wealthiest tracks the wealth of African billionaires residing in Africa or primarily conducting business there.
Aliko Dangote’s fortune saw an increase of $400 million in the past year, bringing his net worth to $13.9 billion. The 66-year-old mogul accumulated his wealth in the cement and sugar industries and recently inaugurated an oil refinery in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub.
Despite economic difficulties in Nigeria, including the devaluation of the naira and soaring prices following the removal of a fuel subsidy, Dangote retained his top position.
South African luxury goods magnate Johann Rupert maintained the second spot, while former South African diamond miner Nicky Oppenheimer secured the third position.
