Kakao Brings Female Leader to Serve as CEO
Kakao recently appointed its inaugural female CEO, a significant move amidst the necessity for corporate culture and management reform. Observers are closely monitoring the impact of the company’s first female leader and the pivotal role she’ll play in elevating the organization’s trajectory. Meanwhile, Naver has already embraced female leadership in response to a prior management crisis.
Chung Shin-a, head of Kakao’s venture capital unit, Kakao Ventures, stands as the sole nominee for Kakao’s top position. This nomination underlines the urgency for corporate restructuring amid the company’s most significant management crisis since its establishment in 2006.
Pending approval from the Board of Directors and shareholders at a scheduled meeting in late March, the 48-year-old Chung is poised to assume the new leadership role. Alongside Kakao founder Kim Beom-su, she plans to engage with employees, seeking their insights and suggestions for fundamental reforms, starting next month. Having joined Kakao Ventures in 2014 and contributed as a member of the company’s Corporate Alignment Council, Chung is expected to spearhead the company’s comprehensive transformation.
