Ranked: Safest Countries in the World, 2023

Many travelers and expats often wonder which countries are the safest in the world, and determining this can be a daunting task. With safety and security being crucial factors, this report examines the safest countries globally. Feeling safe in a location is important when deciding where to travel or set up a business. To help quantify the topic of safety, the CEOWORLD magazine has released its safest countries in the world ranking for 2023, a data-driven measurement of global peacefulness and safety.

The CEOWORLD magazine ranks 164 countries based on 11 factors to create a list. These factors are deaths from internal organized conflict, deaths from external organized conflict, level of perceived criminality, number of refugees and internally displaced people, political instability, number of homicides per 100,000 people, number of jailed population per 100,000 people, number of internal security officers and police per 100,000 people, military expenditure as a percentage of GDP, number of armed services personnel per 100,000 people, and ease of access to small arms and light weapons. The scores are then averaged for an overall composite—the lower the score, the safer the space.
