Most Physically Active and Difficult Jobs in the U.S.
Many professions require physical exertion, while others require sitting in front of a computer screen for most of the day. CEOWORLD magazine has ranked the top 50 most physically demanding jobs in America using data from the Occupational Information Network (O*NET). O*NET is a system developed by the U.S. Department of Labor that provides information on 873 occupations within the United States economy. It uses professional occupational analysts to determine the importance of certain skills and abilities required to perform specific jobs, along with the appropriate level of accomplishment needed. The analysis also includes information on average earnings, employment, and projected job growth.
This list ranks jobs according to the level of stamina required, which is measured on a scale from 0 to 100. If there is a tie, it is broken by considering the level of stamina required and the average wage in 2021. Some wages are reported either hourly or salary, depending on the pay structure of the job. CEOWORLD magazine has also analyzed the responsibilities and work activities of each job to determine the physical activities involved, such as climbing, lifting, walking, stooping, handling large machinery, or working in hazardous or outdoor conditions.
