The Supervisory Board of Royal Van Oord aims to propose Govert van Oord as the incoming CEO during the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders on April 11, 2024, marking a significant transition within the family-owned business to its 5th generation.
Pieter van Oord, who served as CEO for over 15 years and contributed three decades to Van Oord, will transition to the Supervisory Board later on. He’s set to be nominated by the Supervisory Board of Schiphol NV as the new CEO of Schiphol.
Niek Hoek, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, expressed appreciation for Pieter’s proposed appointment, acknowledging its significance for Van Oord and its societal role. Hoek commended Pieter’s dedication and entrepreneurship, highlighting Van Oord’s evolution from a dredging firm to a diverse maritime contractor. Notably, the company’s strides in offshore wind projects have led to a robust position with two thriving Business Units: Dredging & Infra and Offshore Energy. Van Oord’s ongoing contributions align with pivotal societal concerns related to climate adaptation and energy transition.
Hoek also conveyed the Board’s satisfaction in welcoming Govert as the incoming CEO, marking a generational shift that signifies continuity and progression for the company.
Govert van Oord brings substantial experience to this role, having been part of Van Oord since 2002, contributing significantly across various regions such as the Middle East, Spain, and Brazil. Presently, as the Managing Director overseeing the Dredging & Infra Business Unit, his leadership has been instrumental. Aged 53, Govert pursued civil engineering in Delft and furthered his education with an MBA from IMD in Switzerland.
