With more than 8,133 metric tons of gold, the United States has the largest gold reserves. The U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve System manages reserves essential for promoting the U.S. economy and protecting the status of the U.S. dollar as a global reserve currency. The large quantity of gold held by the US is viewed as an emblem of economic vigor and assurance, promoting the nation’s economic soundness and international clout.
Germany had 3,353 metric tons of gold reserves; Italy had 2,452 metric tons; France had 2,437 metric tons; and Russia had 2,330 metric tons. Compared to these countries, the gold reserves of the United States were more than double and even more than triple in some cases.
China in sixth place with 2,113 metric tons; Switzerland in seventh place with 1,040 metric tons; Japan in eighth place with 846 metric tons, India in ninth place with 797 metric tons; and the Netherlands in tenth place with 612 metric tons.
