3M Health Care Business Appoints Bryan Hanson as CEO

On August 22, 2023, 3M (NYSE: MMM) announced the selection of Bryan C. Hanson as the Chief Executive Officer of the forthcoming independent healthcare company after its spin-off from 3M. Hanson will officially assume the role of CEO of the Health Care Business Group within 3M on September 1.

Holding the positions of President and Chief Executive Officer since 2017 and Chairman since 2021 at Zimmer Biomet, Hanson brings a proven track record of leadership, growth, and transformation in the global medical device sector, driving innovation and delivering value for stakeholders.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of 3M, Mike Roman, expressed his contentment with Hanson’s appointment, stating, “We are pleased to have Bryan join us to successfully complete the spin-off of our Health Care business and build a leading independent medical technology innovation company. His industry expertise, ability to drive growth, and track record of building a strong culture and teams will make an immediate impact.”

Hanson, expressing his enthusiasm about joining 3M, noted, “I have a deep respect and admiration for what 3M has built-in health care – strong brands, quality products, commercial excellence, and customer-driven innovation. I look forward to working with the team to more deeply understand and realize the potential of our business as we accelerate our path forward and build on a legacy of trusted leadership and medical innovation.” said Hanson.

Before his tenure at Zimmer Biomet, Hanson held the position of Executive Vice President and President of Medtronic’s Minimally Invasive Therapies Group. His career also encompassed various executive roles with growing responsibilities at Covidien. In 2013, he was appointed Group President of Covidien’s Medical Devices business. He further led the transformation of two of Covidien’s largest divisions into a single global business unit while serving as Surgical Solutions Group President in 2011.
