Top 10 Countries With The Highest Rate Of Cryptocurrency Possession In 2022

Nowadays, 10% of the world’s population owns some form of cryptocurrency. Worldwide, Thailand has the highest share of cryptocurrencies, with 20.1% of Thai internet users owning digital currencies. The second country internationally in the adoption of cryptocurrencies is Nigeria, with 19.4%, with the Philippines having a similar percentage. Relatively low in the ranking and specifically in the 14th place comes the USA, where 12.7% of internet users are owners of cryptocurrencies. All the above are conclusions that come from DataReportal’s research.
The Philippines and South Africa are in 3rd place on the list, after Thailand and Nigeria. The two countries share the same position as they collected the same percentage. In the Philippines and South Africa, 19,4% of internet users are owners of cryptocurrencies.
Turkey holds 4th place on the list. In Turkey, 18,6% of internet users are owners of cryptocurrencies. Argentina comes next. Argentina holds 5th place on the list, with 18,5% of internet users being owners of cryptocurrencies. Indonesia holds 6th place on the list, with 16,4% of internet users being owners of cryptocurrencies. In Brazil, 16,1% of internet users are owners of cryptocurrencies. The country holds 7th place on the list concerning cryptocurrency possession in 2022. Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia hold the last three places on the list. In Singapore, 15,6% of internet users are owners of cryptocurrencies. Singapore holds 8th place on the list concerning cryptocurrency possession in 2022. In South Korea, 13,4% of internet users are owners of cryptocurrencies. The country holds 9th place on the list concerning cryptocurrency possession in 2022. In Malaysia, 13,2% of internet users are owners of cryptocurrencies. Malaysia holds 10th place on the list concerning cryptocurrency possession in 2022.
The popularity of cryptocurrencies is also growing in Greece. It seems that the country sees no exception to this trend. More specifically, 8.6% of the citizens in Greece have some form of cryptocurrency in their possession. The country holds 30th place on the list. Even lower percentages compared to Greece have countries such as Denmark, Sweden, the U.K., Romania, Taiwan, and Mexico. In Denmark, Sweden, and the U.K., for example, 8,3% of internet users are owners of cryptocurrencies. The three countries share 31st place on the list concerning cryptocurrency possession in 2022. In Romania, Taiwan, and Mexico, 7,9%, 7,6%, and 7,3% of internet users are owners of cryptocurrencies.
However, some citizens around the world turn their back on cryptocurrencies. Citizens in Russia (only 2%), Israel (3%), Morocco (3.1%), and Saudi Arabia (3.6%) have the lowest rates of cryptocurrency possession.
According to another survey conducted in the third quarter of 2021, men aged between 25-34 represent 15.5% of cryptocurrency owners. As far as women are concerned, the corresponding percentage is 9.5%. Overall, most cryptocurrency ownership is concentrated among people aged 16-44. Without a doubt, cryptocurrencies have become part of people’s daily lives, replacing some of the roles played by traditional monetary systems. Furthermore, another survey found that about 55% of U.S. citizens would like to earn their wages on digital assets.
