Russian Billionaires: Russia’s Top 20 Richest People, 2022

With a fortune of over $24.5 billion, Vladimir O. Potanin, president of metals giant Norilsk Nickel and its biggest shareholder, is the richest person in Russia, an analysis of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index shows. Norilsk Nickel (NILSY) is the largest producer of palladium and high-grade nickel in the world, as well as a major producer of platinum and copper.

Norilsk Nickel accounts for about 40% of global palladium output, as well as roughly 10% of platinum and refined nickel. It also produces 3% of the world’s cobalt supply. Behind Vladimir Potanin is Leonid Mikhelson, with an estimated net worth of $21.4 billion, followed by Alexey Mordashov (No. 3, $21.3 billion); and Andrey Melnichenko (No. 4, $19.7 billion).

Alisher Usmanov is the fifth-wealthiest person in Russia, with $17.9 billion. Viktor Vekselberg ranked 6th with a personal wealth of $16 billion, followed by Roman Abramovich with $13.7 billion. Mikhail Prokhorov is placed 8th with a net worth of $13.4 billion.
