Yerkin Tatishev was selected Entrepreneur of the Year in Kazakhstan by the leading business firm Ernst & Young. His leadership and actions in the face of COVID-19 have impressed the judges of one of the most important competitions in the world.

Well-known business people from all regions of Kazakhstan were invited to participate in the contest. The founder of Kusto Group was able to stand out among 21 other entrepreneurs from the country who reached the final with him.

They all received an independent evaluation and recognition of their achievements by authorized juries representing Kazakhstan and international business circles.

Yerkin Tatishev, the national winner, will represent the country at the international final in Monaco in June 2022. This competition brings together finalists from 60 countries worldwide selected by an independent jury according to international rules.

COVID-19 patients in Ukraine receive medical equipment from the Kusto Help Foundation

The Pandemic has generated a severe economic crisis throughout the world. Among its effects, it has caused the bankruptcy of thousands of companies and the loss of millions of jobs.

On the contrary, many organizations and their leaders found ways to develop their businesses further. Yerkin Tatishev, through Kusto Group, has also sought to mitigate the effects of Covid-19, especially in countries that are heavily affected by this virus.

Since the Kusto Group was created, the company has grown enough to employ more than 8,000 workers. It has various social projects and charity programs totaling 1.1 billion Kazakh tenges. It also develops sustainable activities in the oil and gas, construction and development, agribusiness, and mining industries in different countries.

Through Kusto Group, Yerkin Tatishev has led the creation of Kusto Help: an organization to support providers of essential services and families affected by the Pandemic. Part of the Kusto Help Foundation’s donations to help cope with the Pandemic includes medical equipment, food, housing, and technology.

The organization also provided hospitals in Ukraine with medical devices such as ventilators, defibrillators, FFP3 respirators, and antibacterial drugs. Donations of these instruments for covid-19 patients in Kazakhstan reach a value of more than 200,000 dollars.

Yerkin Tatishev fights water scarcity in Kazakhstan

The award that EY gave to the founder of Kusto Group seeks to recognize those who work to improve the quality of life in their communities, countries, and around the world.

The Covid-19 Pandemic has not been the only issue addressed by the Kusto Group. Water scarcity in Kazakhstan poses a severe threat to the entire country.

Faced with this situation, UN officials have declared that Kazakhstan suffers from great water stress and depends on its neighbors, including Central Asia and China.

Consequently, cooperation emerged between Yerkin Tatishev of Kusto Group, the Government of Kazakhstan, and Valmont Industries, USA. Together they will open a manufacturing plant to produce 1000 pivot irrigation devices in Kazakhstan.

In addition, the agreement provides for the installation of innovative irrigation systems on farms and a program to train local farmers.

All donations made by the Kusto Group have been possible thanks to the assistance of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Ukraine. The company’s entrepreneurial spirit led them to take the lead in charitable giving during a difficult time.

EY awarded Yerkin Tatishev the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ prestigious award

Ernst & Young has established this competency for more than 20 years. Throughout its history, the firm has paid great attention to supporting entrepreneurship. During the Pandemic, EY has sought to help entrepreneurs continue developing their businesses and sharing experiences.

The Entrepreneur of the Year competition benefits all national finalists and winner. The final, held in June this year in Monaco, allows the national winner to compete with the best entrepreneurs in the world while learning additional ideas and experiences to help them further develop their business.

There have been more than 800 entrepreneurs from Kazakhstan who have participated in the contest. In addition to this, six other previous winners have represented the country at the world championships in Monte Carlo.

The decision to crown Tatishev as the winner was made by Nurlan Smagulov, a previous Entrepreneur of the Year winner. There were also representatives from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan among the judges.

A key element in Mr. Tatishev receiving this award was his leadership qualities and handling of a wide range of sectors. Kusto Group’s identity is directly related to serving complex businesses, which has been highlighted as a unique feature of the award winner.
