10 countries that send the most students to the UK universities, 2020

International students in the UK were up 5.9% from the academic year 2017-18 with 485,000 students total, and foreign students now make up 20.38% of all higher education students (2.38 million) in UK universities.

Here are the 10 countries that send the most students to UK universities in 2018/19.

  1. China (120,385, +13% since 17/18)
    The most populous country in the world with about 1.4 billion people, 120,385 Chinese students went to college in the United Kingdom.

    India is the second-largest country by population in the world with about 1.3 billion — 26,685 of its students went to a British college.

  3. United States (20,120, +7% since 17/18)
    With a population of about 327 million, the United States sent 20,120 of its students to the UK for college.

    Hong Kong has a population of close to 7.4 million and 16,135 of its people went to college in the UK.
